Welcome readers to my blog; today I will be describing a day in my life as an International Baccalaureate Student. I am currently a student at Kodaikanal International School, and I am in my final year of the IB diploma programme. Today was a busy day. My IB pre-mock exams begin in less than 10 days. For context, in IB, we study 6 main subjects with an additional core IB subject called Theory Of Knowledge. Out of the 6 subjects, we have to take 3 Higher Level subjects whose difficulty is that of first year of university and 3 standard level subjects that are at the difficulty of normal high school subjects. The courses I take are listed below:
Mathematics Analysis and Approaches (Calculus Heavy Math) - Higher Level
Computer Science - Higher Level
Physics - Higher Level
Economics - Standard Level
German Ab Initio - Standard Level (I don’t understand anything)
English A : Language and Literature - Standard Level
Usually I wake up at 7:30 am. I am supposed to wake up at 7:00 am but those 30 minutes of extra sleep are pure bliss. I usually take 30 minutes to brush my teeth, wash my face, make my bed and change for school. I usually try and go for something comfortable and warm as I am up in the mountains. At 8:00 am sharp my dorm parent comes screaming at everyone to get out in 30 seconds or he’ll take our phones away (we tend to comply). I put on my headphones and walk to the school cafeteria which takes less than 5 minutes. I grab breakfast and internally cry about the upcoming day.
Today is day 2 which is the worst. I have 8 classes of 45 minutes each. What’s worse is I have a physics test first thing in the morning. I quickly finished the french toast on my plate, had a juice and headed to homeroom by 8:40. There I just talked to my friends and revised for the test a little bit. At 9:05, I reached the physics classroom ready for yet another data analysis paper. I wrote my paper which took 2 classes and by 10:40 I left the classroom discussing how the paper went with my friends. Then me and my friend walked across campus to attend our computer science class where I spent 45 minutes sipping coffee and learning about a case study. At 11:35 me and my friends left for the cafeteria where we had lunch and headed back to the library to just hangout. At 12:25 me and my friend walked to close-by Theory of Knowledge class where we worked on out final TOK essays.
After that, at around 1:15, I grabbed my economics textbook from my locker and headed straight into the economics class next door and met with a different friend. I absolutely hate 2 classes (about 1.5 hours) of economics, not because I don’t like the subject, but because I can’t help but fall asleep after lunch. Unfortunate for my sleep, we had a surprise test. And thus, began the 1.5 hour long test. At 2:50 I checked my phone with my aching wrist and saw that I had two classes left. I hate day 2. I walked reluctantly to the math class and surprisingly, our math teacher gave us the class to work on our IA (a research project of 3000 words). Next, me and my friend again walked across campus to the german classroom. We both hate german class. It feels like 45 minutes of gibberish that I don’t understand. I grabbed some brownies from the tea break in between and walked up to the classroom. Surprisingly it wasn’t that bad, the teacher cracked some jokes and we had some fun. At 4:35, it was finally time to head back to my room. I put on my headphones again and walked back to dorm, and when I reached my bed, I just straight up passed out. I slept through dinner too. I woke up at 7:00, hungry and full of sweat and headed to take a shower. I also made myself some instant noodles and by 8:00, I was in bed with my bowl of noodles and YouTube on my computer. I ate and watched YouTube till 8:30 and then called my family for 30 mins. At 9:00 I sat down to revise on some physics and prepare for the exams. Today I studied Kinematics and Projectile Motion. I studied till about 10:30 and then watched some YouTube yet again. At 11:00, I closed my laptop, turned of the lights and went to bed. In bed I scrolled for another hour and texted some of my friends. I think I fell asleep at 12 or 12:15.
And yeah thats a day in my life. Usually if I have a submission or test the next day, I don’t watch YouTube that much and I stay up till around 1. Thanks for reading my blog!
